I don’t want an empire that demands every ounce of me.
I want a business that gives me the life I actually want.
I have 2 kids, adults now but when they were young I wanted to be fully present with them.
Not half-distracted, sneaking looks at emails or worrying about what was happening in the business.
I could have chased scale.
I could have pushed for growth at all costs.
But that would have meant longer hours, constant pressure, and less of the thing I cared about most: time with my kids.
So I built differently.
I built a business that fits around my life. One that runs even when I am not in the room. One where the team knows what they are doing and the structure keeps everything moving.
And that choice is paying off.
A few weeks ago I joined a friend on a charity walk in the Highlands.
Something I would have turned down a year ago because I thought the business couldn’t survive without me.
But it can. And it does.
That freedom is the real win.
Because it means I get to say yes more often: yes to family, yes to friends, yes to experiences that matter.
I am still ambitious.
Still growing. But I am building in a way that creates freedom today and security tomorrow.
Because success is not just about growth.
It is about building something strong enough to give you the life you actually want.
